I spend too much time cruising the JCrew.com sale links. Way, WAY too much time. Especially in the sweaters. No one should spend as much time debating the merits of merino versus cashmere or 3/4 versus full sleeves or cardigan versus pullover as I do. Especially when I should be doing something more productive….like catching up on the latest episode of 16 and Pregnant or something. (It’s research for BUMPED. Really.) That JCrew.com is the go-to destination for a disproportionate amount of my procrastination is particularly ironic when I consider that I once had an opportunity to be the person writing J.Crew’s captivating catalog copy instead of timesucking it.
If you’ve been to one of my college events* recently, you’ve heard the story about how I had an interview at J.Crew when I was a senior in college. The job was junior copywriter and I went to the interview in a […]

Welcome to the inaugural edition of Q&A Monday!
I got so many questions (keep sending! keep sending!) that I was considering breaking it up into two different Q&A days but then I realized that such a decision would no doubt be detrimental to my overall productivity because I am not the impressive Meg Cabot who somehow manages to be both a prolific blogger AND novelist AND has still finds time time to ride her bike AND watch awesomely bad reality TV. I know my own limitations, so I’m sticking to Q&A Mondays, Senryu Tuesdays and (retro)blog Thursdays for now. That will keep me busy enough while I write BUMPED, my first post-Jessica Darling novel.
The first question comes from Amber Lyn, who happens to be the creator and mod of the longest running Jessica Darling fan site. Q. Why is it still called a retro blog, when obviously you need to admit […]

“This is a hard paper to read. I’ll never assign it again!”
Here I am, draining the life out of my poor ninth grade English teacher by mistaking snottiness for cleverness.

I did not get along very well with my ninth grade English teacher. I thought he was stifling my creative genius. He thought I was a snotty brat. I think his assessment was more accurate than mine. This oh-so-ironic and terribly written essay proves it:

Did I actually get class credit for writing an essay about an episode from the sitcom Valerie?
Apparently so.

TJ and I went to Pizza Hut to celebrate our track team’s undefeated season. (By the way, I didn’t run against Lacey and I have a stress fracture and can’t run for at least four weeks.) Then we went to K-Mart as a superjoke and had so much fun doing stupid stuff like trying on wigs, and spending 60 cents on the vending machines. We got two super bouncy rubber balls, a plastic frying pan for a Barbie doll, a ring, and a little soldier guy.
It was so funny when TJ decided she really needed one of those ultra-stylish tube tops advertised for $1.50 in the K-Mart circular. So we got matching (well, opposite) black and white tube tops. Whoa! And were acting so bizarre when she slept over, sharing the intimate details of our first periods and noo-noos (code word for feminine products). It was SO MUCH FUN.
Central’s […]

My knee hurts. I got a 96 in this class for the marking period. I so rightfully deserve it. Onward with more important goals…

A DAY TO GO DOWN IN HISTORY.
Today, I, Megan Fitz, completed the entire left side of my folder with little circles.
What do I do now?
